I was born and raised in Central California where I graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in Biology, having aspirations to attend medical school. But after some rotations in hospitals and working with doctors, I decided that I wanted something different for my life. Shortly thereafter I moved to Peru to teach English and volunteer in Lima, and eventually started working in the travel industry. When I came to Peru I fell in love with the people, the history, and the cuisine. From backpacking across all of Western Europe to adventures in Central and South America, I can never see enough, and strive to see as much of the world, and its cultures, as possible.
"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move." -- Anthony Bourdain
Make time for a free day during your trip. Having an entire day to explore on your own really is great to understand the places you are visiting. Visit local markets, people watch in the city plazas, and spend time getting to know the culture outside of a guided tour.
Take the path less traveled. While visiting popular destinations like Cusco and Machu Picchu is a must, don’t limit yourself to these locations only, as Peru has an abundance of incredible places to visit.
Be adventurous with food! Peru has some of the world’s best cuisine, and this usually does not require a stop in an upscale restaurant. In Lima, don’t be afraid to step into a small restaurant (Huarique) or market and you may try the best seafood you have ever tasted.
